Come see the freakshowStewart Fussell on October 10
Freakshow. This is the theme for FX’s newest season of the hit show “American Horror Story.” From the creepy “murder house” of season one to the gruesome psych ward of season two and last season’s sassy coven of witches, season four has a lot to live up to. This season had it’s thrilling premiere on Oct. 8th and will be airing on Wednesday nights at 10 pm and 11 pm.
Prior to the beginning of this season a series of mini previews were released. These short clips revealed very little about the show, but they did introduce a few characters. This season will feature many of our favorite familiar faces including: Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson and fan favorite, Evan Peters. These three have played main roles in all three seasons. Evan Peters, who has become infamous for his portrayal of the Tate Langston, a teenage killer in the first season, will portray a young man with deformed hands. Lange plays one of our main characters once again in this newest installment of the show. She will be featured as Elsa Mars, the woman in charge of this freakshow. Lange has also played the satanic Sister Jude in season two and the supreme witch, Fiona Goode, in season three. Many of the female cast members from seasons one and three are also back. Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Gabourey Sidibe and Emma Roberts are all casted in this new season. These frightening ladies were featured in “American Horror Story: Coven” as a band of witches. A few newcomers have also been incorporated into this season including the smallest woman in the world, Jyoti Agme. The show is set to take place in 1950s Florida which only adds to the vintage circus feel of the show. Seasons one through three have provided a certain style of filming and dramatic acting that leave us wanting more. The episodes include perspectives from multiple characters with twists that ultimately tie the stories together. The first episode used these concepts to introduce us to the horrors of the freakshow. During the first episode we are introduced to many of the show’s characters, but the most horrifying is “Twisty” the clown. Twisty has a gruesome smile and a murderous temper, but his motives are a mystery for now. In addition, we watch as Bette and Dot find their way to the freakshow with the help of Elsa Mars. This seems to be the safest hideout for a two-headed woman with blood on her hands. The five murders that occurred in this first episode have made it very clear that there will be many more in this season to come. These characters seem to always have a sharp object handy when they get into an altercation, so this is sure to be a deadly season. The premiere of season four also so included a charming musical number and ended with a shot of Elsa’s own freakish secret. This small glimpse of season four was chilling to say the least, and I am prepared to eagerly watch every Wednesday while trying not to run out of the room. |
