Basketball workouts have started and the players are getting prepared for the season. Workouts are held to get the players active and excite players for the upcoming season. Many of the players are attending workouts to prepare for tryouts and play more basketball. Some players are not able to make it to the workouts because they are playing other sports that interfere. Workouts have been going on this month, and they are usually held twice a week. Workouts are a good time for the players to have fun playing while they are getting prepared for the season. “My favorite part is just getting to be able to play basketball and be with some of my teammates,” junior Omisha Stewart said. Workouts are a good time for the players to get together, play basketball, get in shape, have fun, and bond as a team. “I enjoy workouts because I just get to play basketball,” junior Marquise Mallory said. Since workouts have started earlier than the actual season, it has given the players a chance to learn how to play better with each other and learn each others’ strengths and weaknesses. “It gets the students to start learning each other, start playing together and starts to get them motivated,” Coach James Rankins said The workouts have also helped get the players back in shape for the season. Some of the players say that the workouts can be difficult sometimes because they have to do more than just play. The players have to do a lot of conditioning and have to run so they can get in better shape to prepare them for the season. “We have to run a lot and do a lot of conditioning,” Stewart said. This season there are a lot of returning players from last year which the team feels like is going to help a lot. “We are really very excited; we have a lot of returning players and are really excited for the season to start,” Rankins said. The players are trying to do better than last year and are hoping to win more games. They want to beat more teams and go farther in the playoffs. “Our goal for the season is to hopefully get further in the playoffs than we did last season and win a lot of games and the Christmas tournament,” Stewart said. Tryouts are coming up, and the players feel like workouts have prepared them and have helped the team get ready and back into the game. “They have helped us all get ready for tryouts,” Mallory said. |
