MADDIE BROWN AND SERINA SPEICHER
WAKE UP FOR MAKEUP?BY HALLIE MILLS ON OCTOBER 10, 2014
Maybe she is born with it. Or maybe she sets the alarm clock early each morning to have time to work in front of the mirror. Hair, makeup and skincare are different types of cosmetology. There are many people at Rose who have the qualities of a cosmetologist. Guys and girls alike want to look their best when going out for a fun night, but some people strive to look their best for just a normal day at school. Sophomore Maddie Brown is one of the girls that works in front of the mirror each morning. The branch of cosmetology that she practices is makeup. Brown started wearing makeup in the fourth grade and since then has done makeup for friends and family members for special occasions.
“I like to accentuate my features with nice eyeshadow that matches my pallette,” Brown said. Brown said that her favorite makeup brand is Estee Lauder, and her makeup must-have is mascara because she feels that it makes eyes look bigger. “Never wear too much foundation, and make sure you’re wearing the right color,” Brown said. “And don’t wear a ton of makeup to school.” Today’s world would be a lot different without cosmetology, and without it many jobs wouldn’t exist. Many of the hobbies of Rose students wouldn’t exist either, such as braiding hair or doing a friend’s makeup. Senior Serina Speicher also likes cosmetology, and specifically enjoys styling hair. Her most common request from friends is braiding or flat-ironing. When braiding, she uses a gel-like substance to prevent the ends of hair from becoming frizzy. “[I really want to learn how to do] the marley twist,” Speicher said. “It’s just like braids, but it’s just [in a] twist.” |
