APPEARANCES
Don't let appearances run your lifeBY MCKENNA NELSON ON MAY 16, 2014
“Wow! You look sick. You must not feel very good.”
“You are so nice! I actually am not sick; I just didn’t put any makeup on today. But thank you for telling me I look like crap!” It’s what every person wants to hear, that they look sick. These kinds of exchanges can be frequently heard throughout Rose. You would think people have enough decency not to point out one’s flaws, but apparently some do not. The point I am trying to make is that we should not put as much emphasis on our appearances. We are told through social media and television that we are not good enough or pretty enough, therefore we should buy makeup. I’m not saying makeup is bad. If you want to wear a little makeup to help YOUR self-confidence, then go ahead. However, if you wear it to impress your crush or your boyfriend (or girlfriend, for that matter), then maybe you should rethink your decision. Personally, I don’t wear much makeup at all. I wear mascara and a little eyeliner. And that’s on the off-chance that I do wear makeup. I like to change it up by wearing makeup to school like three days a week at the most. It’s so much easier than getting up thirty minutes early to put on pounds and pounds of makeup. If you are wanting to wear a ton of makeup for guys, I can guarantee you 90% of guys do not notice whether you do or not. If you wear a little bit of makeup on most days, people (boys) will notice when you go all out for prom or a special event. Find the people who do not care about your appearance. If you find a boyfriend who you can hang out with wearing sweatpants, a baggy sweatshirt, no makeup and hair in a bun, you have hit the male jackpot. Cherish that boy, for you may not find another one like him. When I look at models and famous people, I notice if they are weighed down with tons of makeup. They might look good like that, but I can guarantee they look a lot different without makeup. I am impressed when a famous person decides to wear a little bit of makeup. People will respect you a lot more if you look amazing without makeup than if you look amazing with makeup. Take a YOLO stance when it comes to your appearance. If you want to go the rest of the school year without caring about your appearance, go for it! I decided very early in senior year that I would not worry about what I looked like. Why? Because the ones who care about how you look don’t matter, and the ones who matter don’t care. HTML Comment Box is loading comments...
