FACULTY AND STAFF
Faculty and StaffBY MADISON ALLIGOOD ON OCTOBER 18, 2013
A typical day for a Rose faculty or staff member can consist of coming to school, cleaning the hallways, preparing the food, making copies, answering phone calls and getting ready for students.
Some of the jobs held at Rose include behind-the-scenes work. One woman who is a large part of this work is custodian Brenda Smith. She has been working at Rose for five years and rarely has a bad day. “I love it,” Smith said. “I love cleaning, it is one of my hobbies.” While students and most teachers set off for their two month summer break, not all of our staff went home. One interesting thing about the job of custodians is how their summer is spent. “I had no break; I worked this summer,” Smith said. “ [I had] about two days [off].” Smith was not the only staff member who spent the majority of her summer on campus. Assistant Cafeteria Manager Jennifer Silver also spent much time leading the summer feeding program that Rose hosted this year. This was a daily program held by our school that provided lunch to students over the summer break. Silver said that some of the interactions she has with students bring her great joy. “I have one guy that makes my day,” Silver said. “One day I was having a bad day and when he came through he made me feel better and he made me smile.” Another staff member who enjoys interacting with students is counselor Chynna Grady. Her typical schedule consists of many different things, so she appreciates her time to meet and talk with students. “[My workday is full of] running around crazy for everybody, answering phone calls, scheduling, teacher meetings, answering emails, meeting with students,” Grady said. Regardless of her hectic days, she remains positive throughout them all. Grady is also a teacher that you can find with a smile on her face. Having been away from the field for several years, business teacher Kelly Perkins came to Rose three years ago and said that she had to get back into her passion of teaching once her son entered high school. “I teach Sports Marketing One, Honors Sports Marketing Two, and MSITA [Microsoft IT Academy],” Perkins said. Perkins has one thing in common with all of her fellow faculty and staff members. She loves her students. “[The biggest reward of my job is] getting to know all of the students at Rose,” Perkins said. HTML Comment Box is loading comments...
