WHERE ROSE GOES
Food that fits the MoodBY SOFI VANCOUTREN SEPTEMBER 16, 2013
Four long periods of school can leave an average student hungry. With nothing but a couple of bucks and a growling stomach, a few students tell us about the hot spots in town. Some of these places are considered typical high school food destinations because many of the students choose those places on a regular basis.
Junior Clay Lindsay, along with other students, makes trips to Sonic frequently. Sonic has a happy hour which may be the eye catching characteristic drawing students to this place. Happy hour is from 2:00-4:00 p.m. with half priced slushies and after 8:00 p.m. with half priced milk shakes. “They have 50 cents corn dogs every now and then,” Lindsay said. “It is also unique with a drive in.” Lindsay said he usually goes with friends for the delicious fattening variety of foods and the convenient drive in. Along with the happy hour, the extremely low priced corn dogs keep bringing students such as Lindsay in for more. Cheap and filling are the main deal breakers for senior Jamartae Chamberlain. “I go to Little Caesars because it is cheap and you get a whole box of pizza for five dollars,” Chamberlain said. Normally on a Friday, Chamberlain will go with his sisters. According to Chamberlain this is something to look forward to. “My favorite is the pepperoni deep dish pizza,” Chamberlain said. A delicious meal, for a low price, that feeds more than one person is why Chamberlain cannot get enough. Like school, sports can work up a big appetite. “Before games or practices I will walk over to Ernie’s and get me a pepper steak,’’ senior JD Clark said. Clark visits Ernie's with the baseball team before or after practices and games at least once a week because it is directly behind Guy Smith Stadium. “This is the typical pregame meal for the baseball players.“ Clark said that the pepper steaks at Ernie's are world-class. Baseball is not the only team with a traditional meal. Junior Marcus Booth on the football team eats Cookout with his teammates before the home games. “It is tradition,” Booth said. Breaking tradition is unacceptable to Booth. In a time crunch rushing to get back to the field the players can quickly receive their food and scarf it down. Before and after school, games and practices are all common times to hit up the best restaurants in Greenville. There are also those early birds who do not mind waking up a little bit early in order to get breakfast somewhere other than home. Sophomore Erica Latham is surely an early bird considering how often she visits Chick- Fil-A near Rose. “I go [to Chick-Fil-A] about three times a week,” said Latham. The reason for her frequent travels is their famous polynesian sauce that has Latham hooked. These are only some of the common places that Rose students tend to be seen during the day. These students are not looking for a gourmet meal or a long frustrating wait. So with little money and a short amount of time, carbs and calories come in second while the growl inside their stomachs leads students to their true craving. HTML Comment Box is loading comments...
