HALL DECORATING
Hall decorating and spirit weekBY SCARLETT ANTHONY ON NOVEMBER 15, 2013
The purpose of Spirit Week is to boost Rose pride and get everyone pumped up for the big homecoming football game. The Sunday before Spirit Week each grade got assigned a hallway to decorate and the best hallway won and got the best prize of all: bragging rights. The theme this year was superheros and each grade chose one and decorated their hall accordingly.
"This year it went wonderful for the juniors because there were many people there willing to help out so we could win," junior Wade Naziri said. Plans were worked out days before the decorating day so that everyone could participate and bring supplies and decorations. "We had a few meetings beforehand so that we could plan out who was bringing what and how we were going to make the big comic book signs and the skyline," sophomore Tyla Gomez said. Each grade got four hours to decorate their entire hallway which was a time crunch for the grades with the bigger hallways. "We tried to split up the roles so everyone was busy, and I hung up things along the entire hall," sophomore Bryan Cooper said. Some students made decorations ahead of time so that they didn't have as much to do that day. "I helped with a lot of things, especially the skyline and at home I made bats to hang up and cute little signs to hang on teachers' doors," junior Taylor Clark said. Hall decorating went smoothly and the junior class won. "It was a great experience to get with our class and work together on something everyone actually cares about," Clark said. The cheerleaders prepared for weeks to get ready for homecoming by learning new cheers and getting ready for the pep rally. "We practiced really hard all week and did our cheers over and over again to make sure we were ready for the game and pep rally," junior Misha May said. After the hallways were decorated and the excitement began, spirit week started. The four days leading up to homecoming each had a specific theme. There was Decade Day, Roll Out of Bed Day, Costume Day, and School Spirit Day. "My favorite day was definitely Roll Out of Bed Day because I got to wear my pajamas and almost everyone participated including the teachers," freshmen Tyler Stox said. Some of the days were harder to come up with things to wear than others. "Decade Day was fun to see everyone who did dress up, but a lot of people didn’t dress up at all because they couldn't figure out what to wear," Stox said. Spirit Week brought the students and teachers together and it got everyone pumped up for the big game. “It was an awesome way to get ready for homecoming, and I can’t wait for next year’s new spirit days,” Cooper said.
