Thor movie review
Nine Realms or NothingBY MERRITT ANDERSON ON NOVEMBER 15, 2013
Boys usually seem to be the typical audience for an action- packed, superhero film, but ladies, do not mark the latest movie, “Thor: The Dark World”, off your list quite yet. Within the first ten minutes, Thor played by Chris Hemsworth already has his shirt off showing the nine realms of the universe what a real man looks like. A gay couple sitting next to me in the theatre just could not get enough of the breathtaking star flexing his abs and arms in all of the right ways, making the remark “That’s what I look like when I take my shirt off right?” But besides the eye candy that the movie offers, the storyline will have you on the edge of your seat for your whole experience.
It begins by showing a scene from thousands of years ago when the evil elves of darkness are trying to use a powerful energy source to take back over the universe of all nine realms and return it to eternal darkness. They are stopped by Thor’s great grandfather and his army, foreshadowing what may be to come later in the movie. It then shows Thor’s lover from here in our own world, Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman, still upset about not seeing her beloved Thor in three years. She is still studying the secrets of the other realms and how to get to them when she accidentally gets sucked into one where the energy source of the elves of darkness gets inside of her. Thor comes to her rescue and brings her back to his land. Now that the elves know that their power source, the “Aether”, is found, they are on a mission to get it and use it in an effort to take over the universe once again. The race to defeat the elves is on, and the movie throws you so many twists that it is hard to keep up with everything that is going on. The movie itself is very typical of a Marvel production with the fight scenes throughout most of it, keeping you entertained, but for some the fighting may get boring just because it goes on for so long. If you aren’t really a Thor fan, you will definitely still enjoy it though. No background information is needed to enjoy this flick. All of the plot twists will leave you clinging for an explanation, wanting to know what happens next. Venture into the dark universe of nine realms. You are in for an action packed experience in “Thor: The Dark World”, but don’t bring your boyfriends ladies...you will expect way too much out of them after seeing Thor. Boys, take the character Thor as a lesson that you might want to strive to not only look like, but act like too. |
