SPRING
Prom: Boys vs. GirlsBY MERRITT ANDERSON ON MAY 17, 2014
It is that time of year again, prom season. With prom on the horizon come, many tasks that the students of Rose must conquer in order to make prom 2014 one to remember. Although one may never be sure about how their prom might play out that year, there is one thing about prom that is always certain: the fact that boys and girls go about the event in completely different ways.
While boys may start preparing for prom the day of, a girl’s preparations can begin as early as months before. “[To get ready for prom] first and foremost, I must find a dress two months before,” senior Daijah Phillips said. Daijah Phillips is not the only girl that believes finding that “perfect dress” is important. “Searching for a dress that ‘daddy” approves of and is better than everyone else’s is how I prepare for prom,” junior Kiauna Phillips said. “I also have to find someone to do my hair and makeup.” Boys, on the other hand, have much less demanding tasks to get ready for the big night. “All I have to do to prepare for prom is bathe,” said junior Addison Taylor, “and make sure my hair dries right. The only thing that us guys have to prepare for is thinking of a way to ask the girl.” Some boys have different things at the top of their priority list. “Well, all I worry about is pre-gaming and fixing my shoes,” junior Will Wilder said. While boys and girls may differ in their preparations, most have the same feelings about the night of. “Dancing is the best part of prom,” Taylor and Wilder said. Many girls feel the same way. “I love twerking it out with my friends on the dance floor,” Kiauna Phillips said. While dancing seems to be on the top of students’ priority lists, they also enjoy the experience in itself, and spending time with their friends on such a special night. “The reason I’m so excited about prom is because I get to dress up and [keep in mind] that this will be my last one ever,” Daijah Phillips said. For some students, prom does not end when the dance is over. “I’m the most excited about the after party,” Wilder said. Boys and girls may have their differences when it comes to prom like spending time on buying a dress, or figuring out how to ask their date, but they also have many things in common. When it comes down to it, the students at Rose are the most excited about dancing and having fun with their friends on a night they will never forget. HTML Comment Box is loading comments...
