ROSE CONLEY RIVALRY
Rowdies vs Crazies
BY SAM SNEED ON OCTOBER 15, 2013
As most people may know Rose and Conley squared off four times in one week recently in football, and volleyball. Although, we may not have won any but one of these games, the rivalry proved to be a strong one. Rose also squared off on Thursday October 3rd in soccer where Rose came out the winner in both JV and varsity.
There were over 3,000 people at the football game on Friday the 29th. The rampants did all they could to play a good game, but after many injuries and penalties, Conley came out on top. Rose has only lost to Conley three times since the first time that they played each other- 2001, 2012, 2013. “I thought that we played well but could not hold their running backs and had too many flags during the game,” said senior Lyda Sypawka. On Tuesday night the JV and Varsity volleyball teams squared up at conley. The team was missing a lot of players due to injuries, but the team played hard, sadly the girls could not pull out a win on any of the sets. The rampants lost in three sets resulting in a Conley victory. “Yes today is important with it being a cross town rival, it is a conference game and as conference play is important what matters the most is the state playoffs,” said Coach Norm Cabacar. Although the girls could not pull out a win there were still a lot of students there during the game to support them. One of the players who was missing because of injury was sophomore Maggie Hallow. Hallow injured her spine, and was one of Rose’s top players on the team. “I definitely think they were nervous because it is the Conley game and it is always hype and everyone wants to win,” said sophomore Maggie Hallow. The JV volleyball team played well, but also after all that could not come out with a win. The JV team sadly lost in two straight games. JV football was the one out of the four rose teams within the week to come out with a win. Forcing a Viking fumble within the Rampant ten yard line in the last minute of the game. The JV team played hard and finally came out with a big win for the Rampants. The Rose soccer teams was also in action on Thursday, October 3rd against Conley. Both the JV and Varsity teams won three too two. The varsity team was winning one to nothing after the first half. Then they went on to score two goals in the second half one by junior Chris Jester and one by senior Braun Alread who also had a goal in the first half of the game. “The way we went out was the first game we focused on Nate thinking he would make all the plays, but this time we focused on their team as a whole and just played our game and came out with a win,” said sophomore Reuben Chemmanam. Conley did not score until the last ten minutes of the game when they really gave rose a run for their money. They scored two quick goals and getting close to a third until Junior Remigio Devente blocked a corner kick as time expired. The rampants all played hard, but only three out of the six teams who played Conley recently won their games, both soccer teams and the JV football team. HTML Comment Box is loading comments...
