smart block and athletes
SMART BLOCK BENEFITS ATHLETESBY MAX VANCOUTREN on OCTOBER 10, 2014
“Without SMART Block and playing a sport I have had to work harder and manage my time better to keep my grades up,” junior Jae Ebron said. She is not the only one that feels this way.
“It’s hard leaving early from school for an away game, getting home late at night and finishing all my school work,” junior Gray Mackenzie said. Student athletes are affected by the absence of SMART Block. When they have to leave early for sports, they can end up missing all of fourth period. That is a whole lesson missed. SMART Block allows these athletes to meet with their teachers and go over what they missed. SMART block allows students to do some of that homework during school so that it does not pile up at night.Sophomore football player Terrence Cherry comes home from practice with a good amount of homework. Athletes can do some of their homework from the night before during SMART block so they do not stress about it. “SMART block benefits me because I have to go to Raleigh for skating straight after school, and I miss all the meetings, but with SMART block the meetings are held during school so I don’t miss anything,” senior Danae Cox said. SMART block allows all athletes who have practice or games after school to attend club functions and meetings. It helps them manage their time for school events. SMART block is important to help with the grades of student athletes. Whether their grades have dropped or they have had to work a lot harder to keep them up, without SMART Block, school has been harder for student athletes. “I have had to work harder to manage my grades without SMART block,” Cherry said. Mackenzie said he agrees that SMART block is very important to all students. Both Mackenzie and Cox look forward to the the return of SMART block. |
