Haven’t you heard? Rose is practically drowning in musical artists. From hip-hop rappers to christian rock guitar players, Rose has it all.
Senior Deontae Columbus, also known as Tae Brisko, is a rapper. “I first became interested in making music in 2011 when I was watching my uncle recording music in his studio,” Columbus said. According to Columbus, having an uncle with a recording studio has been very helpful and convenient. “I’m really into old school hip-hop and modern artists who have old school influences,” Columbus said. Kanye West is Columbus’ favorite artist and has had a lot of influence on his style and music. Columbus likes to write about things that happen in his life. Since 2011, Columbus feels that his skills as an artist have greatly improved. “I have been working hard to improve my flow and dig deeper so that my lyrics hold deeper meaning,” Columbus said. Columbus has released mixtapes and has several songs on SoundCloud. He hopes that one day he can start his own label. Columbus is not the only one who is musically gifted. Freshman Drew Griffin plays guitar at church for his youth group. He started playing the guitar a year ago when his brother taught him. Griffin plays christian contemporary for his youth group at church. He also enjoys playing rock and roll music in his free time. “It’s fun learning new songs and showing them off,” Griffin said. Griffin practices at his house to prepare for playing at church during Sunday worship services. “Right now it’s just something I do for fun because I enjoy it, but I do hope to continue playing the guitar my whole life,” Griffin said. Griffin feels that learning to play the guitar in church is a new way for him to worship. It has helped him strengthen his spiritual relationship with God. Rose’s own Anna Brooke Hylton, a freshman, recently auditioned for America’s Got Talent. When Hylton was eight years old, she became interested in playing the guitar and singing. She enjoys playing country and pop music. Hylton writes her own music and is inspired by things that happen in her every-day life. “If possible, I would like to make a career out of my music,” Hylton said. Out of 800 people auditioning for America’s Got Talent, only five are called back for a private audition. Hylton was one of the select five. After playing a song for the judges she was asked to play a second song. Hylton will find out if she made it in a few months. “Regardless of whether I make it or not, it was a really good experience and I had a lot of fun,” Hylton said. Rose has a diverse selection of artistic talent. As a whole there are many students at Rose creating their own music. HTML Comment Box is loading comments...
