To whom it may concern
Opinion editor responds to criticsBY MERRITT ANDERSON OCTOBER 31, 2014
Students, parents, faculty and staff, I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the fact that many of you have been taking my articles quite personally. I was actually very surprised when I found out how worked up people were getting over them. In no way were they meant to hurt anyone’s feelings, and they were in no way directed towards anyone in particular. Everything I write is literally a joke. I have not written one serious article all year, and I am so sorry that some of you have taken my writing in a way that it was not meant to be perceived.
My first article about “knowing your place” was completely based upon my own experiences as an underclassman. I was making fun of myself more than anyone. I realized the mistakes that I had made and how dumb I was during different points of my high school career, and I took the opportunity to laugh at myself and say “Hey, don’t be like me!” The rest of the article was actually a joke, and I thought that was obvious. Do you really think I want you to say how high when I say jump? In no way do I hate Conley and everyone that goes there. I have plenty of friends that attend, and I think that this is true for most of the population here at Rose. That does not change that fact that we have a huge rivalry. It makes school and sports more exciting and fun knowing that we are part of such intense competition. Although, I will admit that it was not wise of me to incorporate the “phrase that must not be spoken” at the end of my article due to past problems that involved it. But, in the long run, this article, just like the one before it, was indeed a joke, meant to express pride in my own school not necessarily put down another. I am thrilled that so many of you are just so interested in Rampant Lines! We want as many people as possible reading our newspaper, and all of your feedback makes it clear that people really are! Next time you come across one of my articles, please do not take it to heart. I am in no way trying to bring down you or any of those near and dear to you. More than likely, I am joking. I love Rose and everyone that goes here. I do not intend to bring anyone any negativity. If you decide that you come across something that you think is unacceptable, please contact us at [email protected]. |
