Volleyball season is finally here, and as many of you know, especially the Rowdie Rampants, it is Rose’s first year in a new conference. This new conference consists of Rose’s biggest rivals, South Central and D.H. Conley. For the past few years, athletes have had to travel long distances, such as Wilmington four times during the season.
“I am really excited about the new conference this year,” Junior Jessica McLellan said, “especially about the tougher competition and shorter trips.” “The ultimate goal for us each year is to win the state championship” Senior Kendall Douglas said, “I think that we have to put in a lot of work to achieve our goal, but as our team continues to grow, I think that we will have a strong chance.” Rose has not won a state championship win since their 2008-2009 back to back state championship wins. The goal every year for the Rampants is to win not only conference championship, but to compete for a state title as well. Having D.H. Conley in the conference, Rose’s number one rival, seems to have pumped up all of the girls. Sophomore Shelby Casey said “I love playing Conley, the atmosphere is great when all of the Rowdie Rampants attend the game”. Casey said that there is a whole different feeling the team has before they play Conley. Rose lost a competitive 3-1 match to D.H. Conley on August 29th. While the loss was a setback, it has become a motivating factor for the Rampants to continue their hard work in hopes of achieving their goals. Freshman Caroline Kuhn said “To beat Conley, we have to be smarter with the ball and improve our passing.” Whether its for a state championship, or just a regular game, Conley seems to be the biggest game of the year for the Rampants. |
