BOOKBAG CONTENTS AROUND THE SCHOOL
WHAT'S IN YOUR BAG?BY HALLIE MILLS ON SEPTEMBER 16, 2014
Books, papers, pens and pencils are common items in the backpacks of students, but there are also other things that are quickly stuffed into backpacks each morning. The chewing gum, lipstick, hair brushes, wallets, lunch bags and random items are some of the things in a backpack that hint at a person’s personality. North Face, Patagonia, Jansport and L.L. Bean are backpack brands frequently seen in the halls at Rose. Everyone has a favorite backpack type; however, it is the things inside the backpack that really matter. Most people are familiar with displaying one’s personality through fashion, but not everyone knows that when taking a peek in a backpack, you take a peek at the owner’s personality also.
Sophomore Kayla Wiggins loves everything bright, especially her school supplies. “I’m very colorful; I like bright colors,” sophomore Kayla Wiggins said. Her bright personality is portrayed by her colorful binders. Wiggins also said her backpack contains Chapstick, a phone charger, a comb and gum along with the traditional classroom items. Rose has a variety of sports for students to participate in. Many of these students carry around their sports gear in their backpacks each day. “Basketball shoes, gym clothes, binders, pencils. Nothing really out of the ordinary,” said junior Marshall Croom about what is in his backpack. According to Croom’s backpack items, he is an athlete; this was confirmed when he said he always made sure to have one item in his backpack: deodorant. Freshman Kaci Hardy likes to pack an item that is not for school: a pair of gray, comfortable sweatpants. “Books, pencils, pencil sharpeners, my pants,” Hardy said about his backpack items. Freshman Marc Swanner utilizes hidden compartments in his backpack. “I put my phone in there, and my wallet,” Swanner said. He also said that although his backpack appears organized right now, it will not be by the end of the year. Swanner is prepared for any situation, but he thinks that there are some things more important than organization. Rose has a large number of students, each one different in their own way. No two people at Rose have the same personality, just as no two people at Rose have the same exact backpack items. Our backpack items are concealed by the backpacks themselves, just as personalities are sometimes concealed by others. Athlete or mathlete? Organized or messy? Class prankster or serious student? All of these personality questions can be answered by that heavy thing you carry around on your shoulders. So if you’re ever trying to find yourself, you might just find the answer in the bottom of your backpack. HTML Comment Box is loading comments...
