RESTAURANT REVIEW
Which Wich do you want?BY BRONWYN WEISMILLER ON SEPTEMBER 20, 2013
Finally, the wait is over. The aroma of fresh bread and creamy milkshakes is currently flooding Greenville because Which Wich has officially arrived.
No more long drives back and forth to Cameron Village in Raleigh just for one of these to-die-for sandwiches. When I first saw on Twitter that Greenville was going to be getting a Which Wich, I couldn’t even believe it. I searched endlessly through a countless number of web pages just to see if the tweet that I had read was true. To my amazement, it was, and two months later as I was driving down Memorial Drive, I caught my first glimpse of the wonder that is Which Wich. What’s so great about Which Wich? Well, it’s unlike any other sandwich shop. When you walk through the doors you are greeted by an endless array of yellow vibe circles and paper bags. Why paper bags? Well this is where Which Wich differentiates itself. Most sandwich restaurants have a counter where you tell the workers what you want; however, at Which Wich it is much more interactive. A menu on the wall has a corresponding number to which kind of meat you want. Pick a paper bag with the number you want, grab a marker and you’re off. With a list of ingredients lining your bag, you are able to customize your sandwich to make it whatever you like. Your bag is then pinned onto a wire and whizzed down the line to await its creation. This process, however, isn’t the fastest of it’s kind. I got turkey, lettuce, tomato, crispy onions, light mayo, spicy ranch, and provolone cheese on wheat. The first taste was the cool lettuce and tomato, followed by the warm sensation of the perfectly seasoned turkey and melted cheese. Soon after the cheese taste left my mouth, it was replaced by a mix of spicy cajun ranch and mayonnaise that was a perfect icing on the cake. After much anticipation, your name is called and your sandwich awaits. Although the wait is rather lengthy, it is worth it when the steam hits your face as you open the tinfoil that is between you and a heavenly sandwich. With over 50 combinations, how can it not be to-die-for? The first taste was the cool lettuce and tomato, followed by the warm sensation of the perfectly seasoned turkey and melted cheese. Soon after the cheese taste left my mouth, it was replaced by a mix of spicy cajun ranch and mayonnaise that was a perfect icing on the cake. Once the sandwich is gone in a matter of seconds what better way to wash it down then with a legendary milkshake? In a variety of flavors, each milkshake is created individually so there is no denying it’s rich and creamy perfection. Although Which Wich may be out of the way to some, the distance and wait time are definitely worth it in the end. It is a quick service restaurant that is unlike any other in Greenville and with just one trip there, you will understand the rave that is currently consuming the city.
