DIFFERENT THINGS AT ROSE

. What is prom without the proposal? With all the stress that comes with prom, one portion of it is the “promposal.” In some eyes this is the first step to prom. Usually the proposal to prom comes a couple of weeks before prom. Next comes finding a dress then making plans for before and after the dance. Some prefer the usual flowers, chocolates or signs, but last year senior Holden Briley set the bar, or board, high with his "promposal."
“I painted prom on the bottom of my wakeboard, jumped and turned so she could see it,” Briley said. For some people, however, borrowing this idea is out of the question. Briley tells us the reaction he got was delayed. “She saw it but it didn't click” Briley said. His date saw what had happened but did not realize the significance of the jump. “I didn't have to do it again because I got it on video.” Briley said. Other prom proposals can be meant for only one set of eyes. “Va a ir al prom conmigo?” Will you go to prom with me? A senior asked her date by putting this question last on his spanish test he took. She asked her date in this way because she thought it was unique and could never catch him at the right moment during the day. At Rose only juniors or seniors can attend prom, but they can bring people from lower grades with them as their date. Is a girl asking a guy unusual? “I am older and i thought it would be funny.” She said. “Happiness is right around the corner.” Senior Lyda Sypawka takes this in as she scooters down the curved path to find a finish line with her prize being a date to prom. On an adventure swiveling down the greenway on her scooter with a couple friends, Sypawka was not expecting this surprise. “I told her I was asking her but the way I did left room for her to be surprised.” Senior Paul Tennison said. Although Sypawka knew Tennison was going to ask her she was not expecting it quite like this. To some people including a person's interests in a prom proposal makes it more sentimental. “She likes homemade things so I painted the letters of prom on signs and my friends held them up in the commons before school.” Senior Terrell Bendele said. Ashanta Smith was truly surprised and touched that Bendele did this for her. “She was dumbfounded she had no idea it was for her.” Bendele said. Complete and utter surprise is always a good way to go for prom proposals, but some people like knowing who their date is going to be and resting on the suspense of how their date will ask.
