BANGERZ
Don't hate on the other side of Miley CyrusBY KEELEY GAY ON APRIL 17, 2014
After the tragic cutting of her beautiful brown hair and the not-so-innocent performance at the VMA Awards, Miley became a target for insults and hate. Magazines and celebrity news websites have recently attacked Miley for anything and everything they can find. But magazines and the internet are not the only sources of Miley gossip. Many students and teachers at Rose have joined the rest of the world in the hate-Miley phenomena. Constant talk about Miley’s provocative performances and recent scandals have filled the Rose halls during the past few weeks. Some people actually like the new Miley, and admire her for being unique and carefree. But these people were far and few until last Tuesday.
If theres one thing everyone can agree on about Miley Cyrus, it is that she’s got some pretty darn good vocal cords. Lack of talent is not Miley’s problem. Her new album, Bangerz, was released at the end of last year. It wasn't long after that when people started jamming out to the heavenly sound of Miley’s voice in their cars before school. Miley’s tour for her new album has been a great success so far, with mostly sold out concerts. For those who don’t know, Miley visited North Carolina last week to perform concerts that were scheduled on the Bangerz tour. She performed a concert in Raleigh and in…..well Raleigh. Miley was supposed to sing in Charlotte last Monday night, but she canceled the show 30 minutes before it was supposed to start. As you can imagine, this sparked even more controversy over the pop singer. Miley’s concert has been the hot topic at Rose for the past week. On the night of the Raleigh concert, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat stories were filled with pictures of Miley-fanatics at the PNC arena. For a girl who's hated so much, she sure does have a lot of fans. There were many students from Rose who went to the concert Tuesday night. Some went because they love Miley Cyrus, and others went simply because they like her music. Nonetheless, everyone who went to the concert came back to Greenville on Tuesday night feeling a new love for Miley. It’s been said that the concert was “life changing” and “the best thing thats ever happened.” Although Miley Cyrus has made some risky moves, she is still a great artist who should be respected. The Miley haters out there need to cut the girl some slack. Miley’s actions shouldn't define her. She has a banging voice, and thats what really counts. Miley may be going down a bumpy path right now, but hating on her will only make things worse. After all, everybody makes mistakes. Everybody has those days. Everybody knows what I’m talking about. Everybody gets that way. |
