Acting

Lights, camera, action. The Rose student body is full of talent. Freshman Natalie Valentine’s talent is acting. She has been performing on stage ever since she was a little girl.
“My very first leading role was in first grade,” Valentine said. “I have been in five big plays, along with lots of smaller skits.” Valentine has participated in school plays, but she has mostly been in productions put on by drama camps and classes. Of these five plays, playing the role of Belle in “Beauty and the Beast” was her favorite. “It was the first time I had to work to develop a character and really bring her to life on stage,” Valentine said. Valentine said she loves being in the spotlight. “I really like being on stage and performing in front of everyone,” Valentine said. According to Valentine, the best part of being on stage is getting to pretend to be someone else. “You’re not yourself, you’re someone else on stage and that’s always really fun,” Valentine said. “Acting is my favorite thing to do; I love it.” There is always room for improvement in the field of acting. Valentine said that there are several things she wants to work on, but her top priority would be getting into character more. “I want to work on really getting into character; that’s something I want to get really good at,” Valentine said. As a seasoned actress, Valentine wants to encourage anyone who thinks he or she might want to give it a try. She has three tips for people who are thinking of stepping on stage. “Try out for everything,” Valentine said. “Don’t think you’re above any roles, and always enjoy what you do.” Valentine did not audition for the fall production, but she is planning on trying out for the spring production. |
