SPRING
Ready, Set, Spring!BY MACIE WRIGHT ON MAY 17, 2014
Spring break, Prom, AP exams, oh my! This year’s spring schedule will be a busy one for many upperclassmen at Rose. Starting on April 18, juniors and seniors will get on the rollercoaster that will not end until May 16. Spring break will begin on Friday, April 18 and will end on Sunday, April 27. The week of spring break is usually a time for relaxation, sleep and vacation time. However, spring break was moved to a later date this year, so many students will be studying for their AP exams that will begin the week after they return. That next Saturday on May 3 the upperclassmen have a highly anticipated social event, prom. Prom is an event many students look forward to and for many it will be their last hoorah in high school.
“Prom [is the time] where you want to have fun and celebrate the end of high school, but [AP exams] are one of the most important parts because it will help you have success in college,” senior Sarah Heard said. AP exams will begin on Monday, May 5, right after prom. AP exam time is when the students that have taken the college level courses throughout the year get to finish up. These exams do not affect the student's grade in school, but it affects whether or not the student will receive college credit for the course. These exams are very stressful for students because, like state made exams, the teachers don’t know what exactly is going to be on them. With Spring break and prom right before the exams, students at Rose are stressing out. “I am actually not going to prom because of [AP exams],” junior Shamin Jamadar said. The stress of these exams is racking at students’ brain and causing them to alter their social schedule in order to ensure they are well prepared for the exams. “I don’t want to have to worry about my exams while I’m at prom,” Jamadar said. Other students are planning ahead and have created a studying schedule to keep them on track, so they can be productive in the time leading up to the exams as well as enjoy spring break and prom. “I’ve actually written out a study schedule just so that I don’t get stressed out,” Heard said. Heard is taking seven AP classes and is hoping to get college credit for all of them, so she can go into college with a lot of hours behind her. This is a crucial time for the upperclassmen because these exams can determine their fate in college; like Heard, many are trying to get ahead in college. The stress the students go through will ultimately pay off in the end for most. To make the exams and this busy time less stressful, many students have studying tactics to help them get through this stressful period of time. “[Soon] I will start studying every day and work myself up to the exams to get ready,” junior Parker Hudson said. While Hudson plans to be productive and study earlier, other students use other ways that benefit them. “I learn better last minute, so I think the days before closer to the exam will be really stressful,” Jamadar said. Whether it is cramming the night before or studying weeks or months before the test, students are preparing themselves the best they can to reduce stress on the big test day. “During the exam, I like to have gum [to stay concentrated],” senior Matthew Fairbrother said. All of the studying will lead up to the actual test; students utilize their little habits that keep them calm and focused throughout the exam. With the help of their useful tips and tricks, the students at Rose are ready for this busy schedule ahead because it is one step closer to success and summer. HTML Comment Box is loading comments...
