Online classes are already offered at Rose, but PCSVA, or Pitt County Schools Virtual Academy, will be offering additional classes next year that will include core courses for Rose students.
Counselor Chynna Grady is in charge of bringing these classes to Rose next year. “If a class is overcrowded then you can take these classes; we’re trying to balance [them] out,” Grady said. “The only classes that are going to be offered next year are English III honors, English IV honors, [pre-calculus], AFM, American History I and II, Chemistry and Earth Science.” Grady thinks these classes will be beneficial to Rose students and teachers alike. Students can choose to take a class on their own time, while teachers will not have to teach classes filled to maximum capacity. “I’m thinking we’re going to have to wait until the schedules come back and see which classes are crowded,” Grady said. “[Students] can [take the classes] after school, in school, before school, whenever they want to log on but the teachers will still be supervising.” The flexibility of the soon-to-be provided online classes sounds appealing to current students, especially those involved in sports and those expecting a strenuous junior year. “That would help with baseball because I could log on when I needed to to do my other work,” sophomore Matthew Burne said. “Since I have a really busy schedule that would help a lot.” Burne thinks that the online classes would not only be convenient and easier for him to work on, but thinks he could picture the material he needs to learn more clearly. “I mean I would definitely give it a try because you know I could see it and kind of work it out because I could see the computer,” Burne said. Though Burne sees these online classes as a future opportunity, junior Ana Sebastian prefers to learn in the classroom rather than online. “I wouldn’t be interested in taking online classes next year because I know that I won’t know the material 100% and I’ll need guidance that an online class may not offer,” Sebastian said. Sebastian took pre-calculus this year and is currently in English III. She believes that taking these as online classes would have been much harder. “Taking online [pre-calculus] and English III this year would not have been as helpful as taking the normal classes,” Sebastian said. “[I think] it is better to have a teacher there in case of any questions or problems you may have pertaining to that class.” Either way, Grady believes that these classes will bring additional aid to Rose that students and teachers will both profit from. “I think it will definitely help the teachers out and be a really good thing,” Grady said. PCSVA online classes will be available soon to students ready to accept the new task. HTML Comment Box is loading comments...
